Confidence doesn’t come from becoming somebody else.
It often comes from becoming more comfortable being yourself.
I spent many years in real estate and learned that there is no single personality type required to become a successful agent.
You don’t have to be the loudest person in the room.
You don’t need someone else’s listing presentation.
And you certainly don’t need to copy the top agent down the road.
One useful NLP principle is that the map is not the territory.
We all experience the world through our own filters — our experiences, beliefs, values and assumptions.
Your client does too.
So instead of assuming you know what a seller wants, get curious.
Ask:
“What’s most important to you in choosing the agent who will represent you?”
Then listen carefully to their answer.
One seller may value the highest possible price.
Another may want certainty.
Another wants communication.
Another simply wants an agent they trust.
Authenticity doesn’t mean telling everyone everything about yourself. It means being congruent — your words, behaviour and values line up.
That’s when people begin to trust you.
And in real estate, trust creates relationships, relationships create referrals, and referrals create business.
Do it well — but do it your way.
