We often ask ourselves, “What do I need to DO to become successful?”

Make more calls. Win more listings. Improve our marketing. Work harder.
But here’s a question worth pausing for:

“Who do I need to BE?”

When I look back on more than 20 years in real estate, some of my biggest steps forward came when I backed myself, had an uncomfortable conversation or followed through despite feeling nervous.

That applies to building a business—and creating a life you enjoy.

Be someone who backs herself.
You won’t always feel confident before picking up the phone, presenting your fee or asking for a listing. Sometimes confidence grows because you take the action.

Prepare well. Take the step. Learn from it.
Actions → Habits → Confidence.

Be someone who keeps her promises to herself.
If you’ve planned an hour of prospecting, protect it. If you promised to follow up, follow up. If you need an afternoon off, honour that too.
Small promises kept help you trust yourself. And that trust comes with you into your next conversation.

Be curious and willing to adapt.
A buyer hesitates. A seller has expectations you can’t support. A listing goes elsewhere.
Before taking it personally, pause and ask:
“What can I learn? What could I ask or do differently?”

Listen closely, communicate clearly and keep moving.
Be clear about what matters to you.
What does success actually look like in your life?
For me, three important values are fun, being of service and self-actualisation—growing into my potential.

Making room for those values helps me feel more content with the life I’m building.
What are your top three values? Does your diary reflect them?

Be a woman who supports other women.
Ask for help. Share what you know. Celebrate another woman’s win.
You can be ambitious and generous. There is room to build your own success while helping someone else move forward.

This week, finish this sentence:
“The woman and agent I want to become is someone who…”
Then choose one action that reflects her.
