Coaching For Women News Edition 5 – February 2025 –
How are your energy levels—or more to the point, your stress levels—now that 2025 is in full swing?
One of my coaching clients, a corporate lawyer, recently shared how the office feels like a pressure cooker. The joy of the holiday season? A distant memory. Everyone’s back to the grind, already worn down by looming deadlines and the never-ending demands of work. Sound familiar?
If you’re nodding along, here’s the truth: stress doesn’t just steal your energy—it disconnects you from who you truly are. And unless you stop it now, it’s going to set the tone for your entire year. But you don’t have to let stress run the show.
“This year is YOURS. Reclaim your peace, reconnect with your true self, and create a life that fuels you. Let’s break free from stress and become the best version of YOU!”
Happiness at work begins with mindset, action, and self-care. Want to find Zen in a high-pressure environment? Here are simple strategies, plus powerful Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) tips, to help you stay centred:
Self-Care
- Maintain wellness – YOUR number one priority. Get enough quality sleep, eat well, and move your body.
- Mindfulness courses and apps for meditation, deep breathing, QI Gong, and Tai Chi. Practice daily.
- Make time for joy: Do things that bring you happiness outside of work.
- Personalize your workspace: A pleasant environment boosts mood and productivity.
NLP Exercise: Visualization – Staying Calm Before Deadlines
- Close your eyes and imagine yourself on the deadline day, having completed everything on time.
- See yourself feeling proud, relieved, and accomplished.
- Let that feeling sink in. This programs your brain to act accordingly.
Set Clear Boundaries
- Schedule ‘ME’ time and stick to it.
- Say NO to people who drain your energy and distance yourself from toxic workplace dynamics.
- Guilt-free indulgences like walks, meditation, facials, massages, etc., to break the day.
NLP Exercise: Create a Confidence Anchor – Calm and Focused in Seconds
- Close your eyes and recall a time when you worked efficiently under pressure.
- Feel the confidence and focus in that moment.
- Press two fingers together as you relive that feeling.
- Repeat a few times to create an anchor.
- Use this anchor whenever stress creeps in.
Growth Mindset
- When challenges arise, ask ‘What can I learn from this?’ Stay solution-focused: Approach challenges with a proactive mindset.
- Celebrate small achievements with enthusiasm.
- Seek feedback and testimonials, then refine through personal growth.
NLP Exercise: Shift from Stress to Strategy (Deadline) Instead of thinking, “This is too much, I will never get it done,” say:
- “How can I break this down into manageable parts?”
- “I’ve handled tight deadlines before. I can do this again.”
- “This deadline is a structure that helps me focus and grow.”
Network
- Connect with mentors: Learn from those who inspire and empower you.
- Build strong connections with colleagues for a supportive environment.
- Engage with professional communities that align with your goals.
NLP Exercise: Questions to Challenge Negative Thoughts
- Is this really impossible, or am I making assumptions?
- What’s the first small action I can take?
- What resources do I have that I am not using?
Stand Up for Yourself
- Ask for what you need (Learn to be ‘okay’ asking for help): Whether it’s a raise, promotion, or flexible schedule.
- Own your accomplishments: Speak up about your contributions. Display your credentials.
- Set career goals: Define your path and take steps toward it. Add to your skill set.
NLP Exercise: Overwhelm – Replace Anxiety with Confidence
- Identify a mental image that causes stress (e.g., seeing a chaotic desk, a stressful email message).
- Now, create a new image of yourself calmly working and finishing on time.
- In your mind, SWAP the images, push the stressful one far away and bring the calm, confident one forward.
- Repeat this 5 times quickly until the new image dominates.
Keep Perspective
- Define success on your terms: Avoid comparing yourself to others. Embrace authenticity, your unique strengths, and qualities, and lead with integrity and transparency.
- Focus on impact: Align work with your values and passions.
- Know when to pivot: If a role isn’t serving you, explore new opportunities.
NLP Exercise: Prioritization – Break Tasks into Manageable Pieces
- Write down the big task.
- Break it into 3-5 smaller tasks.
- Prioritize: What’s most urgent? What can wait?
- Allocate specific time blocks for each step.
