Victoria VIC – January 2024 Month 12 Temp 20/14 Distance travelled 21,300km

Google says ‘It’s one of the world’s best scenic Ocean Drives ‘… let’s see about that…

It was raining, misty and overcast so we didn’t expect too much. First stop at the ‘Bay of Islands’!

As we approached the cliffs, we were mesmerized by the sheer power and intensity of the Southern Ocean. Before us huge crashing waves pounding freestanding limestone rock formations about 300meters off the shore. These mini rock islands were enveloped partially in fog making the landscape both eerie and fascinating.

Port Campbell our home for a few nights was equally stunning. In fact, the bay looked so awesome that we even dared a refreshing swim in the 16-degree clear icy waters.

We explored the sombre Loch Ard gorge where only two people survived the Loch Ard shipwreck. One of many along this treacherous coastline.

The 12 Apostles are the hottest ticket along this famous coastal park. Though we enjoyed very much ALL our walks of the many cliff formations like the Grotto, London Bridge and the Arch.

We especially loved negotiating the 70-meter cliff face via the Gibson steps at Clifton Beach, another awe-inspiring highlight.

Could it get any better? It was done at Cape Otway. Here we camped in a National Park with Koalas snoozing above our camper van in the gum trees. Kookaburras and Cockatoos aplenty waking us up in the mornings.

A stroll to the nearby Cape Otway Light station revealed more breathtaking ocean views.

Then a short hop to Appollo Bay for a relaxing recharge. Followed by a stunning ocean drive to Lorne. Here we stumbled onto the ‘Pier to Pub’ biggest Ocean swim in the world.

Our next destination will take us to Ballarat and the picture-perfect Spa town of Daylesford.

For our German Friends & Family..

Erster Stopp an der „Bay of Islands“!

Could it get any better? This was the case at Cape Otway. Here we camped in a national park while koalas dozed in the rubber trees above our motorhome. Kookaburras woke us up in the morning with their laughing call. A walk to the nearby Cape Otway Light Station opened up more stunning ocean views. Then a quick hop to Appollo Bay to relax. This was followed by a breathtaking drive along the sea to Lorne. Here we happened upon the “Pier to Pub”, the largest sea float in the world.
