Western Australia WA – September 2023 Month 8 Temp 20/8 Distance travelled 13,300km

Perth is the capital of Western Australia. Unique as it’s the most isolated city on earth and ranked 6th place for liveability in the world. We found for good reason.

It’s the sunniest city in Australia and we’re enjoying the awesome Spring weather.

We based ourselves in the characterful area of Fremantle. One of the most historic places in Perth, dating back to the late 1800s.

Here it was ‘no rest for the wicked’ visiting Kings Park, the Perth Zoo (I worked here as Catering Manager in the 90’s) and Perth City for some retail therapy.

We had fun catching up with friends and enjoyed the beach culture and general great vibes of Perth.

Rottnest Island was another highlight. We cycled around the Island hoping in and out of most of the sixty beaches and twenty bays. Eventually we snorkelled at Salmon Bay off the beach and discovered loads of colourful fish.

Our next adventure will take us to the renowned south / west of WA, the famous Margaret River region.

Quokkas……

named by Dutch explorer Willem de Vlamingh in 1696, who mistook them for rats, naming the island rat’s nest ‘Rottnest’

We cycled around the entire Rottnest island 22km and were in awe of the stunning scenery…
