Day 6 – Now 412km from Brisbane – Temp 33/23 – Highlight = Awesome beaches

Leaving Maleny on a high, a 10 out of 10, we travelled on about 300km to Elliott Heads near Bundaberg. It’s at the entrance of a large sandy estuary. Picture perfect an idyllic Queensland beach.

We spent 2 days/3 nights here. Mostly lazy days in the 30c+ temperatures with fantastic swimming conditions (water temperatures about 24c) and beach walking.

It’s a tough life, but someone has to make our northern hemisphere friends jealous.

We ate our dinner on a small cliff overlooking the beach on 2 of the evenings, watching the smallish waves roll in and hundreds of Lorikeets settling in for the night in nearby trees.

A couple of nights we tried to spot turtle hatchlings leaving the beach for the ocean, but no luck. They were probably up a lot later than we were. Instead, we enjoyed some star gazing.

There was a Qld beach volleyball competition over 2 days here. It was a very high standard.  Makes you tired just watching it :-).

Today Monday, lucky 13th, we’re off to Yeppoon an approximate 350km drive, but first a quick pitstop in Bundaberg for a delicious breakfast at the ‘Indulge Bistro’, run by Belgians.
